IN THE PRESS: Al-Muslimi: It is regrettable that the truce in Yemen has not been extended

- PART 1 -

Farea al-Muslimi, co-founder and chairperson of the Sana'a Center for Strategic Studies, said in an interview on Al-Mahriyah TV that “it is regrettable the truce in Yemen was not extended, even though it continues to hold informally.” The truce, he added, offered a glimmer of hope in hopes of improving the lives of ordinary Yemenis.

Al-Muslimi added that there are two problems in Yemen. The first is a “blatant, revealing, and frightening political and intellectual deficiency”, whereby war has become the first option considered before any other alternative is explored. The second problem is that Yemen is no longer the only war in the world. Ending the war in Yemen is possible, but it depends on the will of Yemeni politicians, and unfortunately, there are no such willing politicians. Those leading Yemen are mercenaries who are driven by their own interests and have no desire to end the war, he said.
